Lumen Health
A patient-facing health platform built from zero. I shaped the product, the brand system, and the engineering foundations that the team still builds on today.
- 40k+
- Active users
- $3.2M
- Seed raised
Lumen began as a deck and a conviction: that patients deserve health software that feels calm instead of clinical. I was the first engineer in, which meant I got to shape the product, the brand, and the foundations all at once.
The challenge
Everything was a blank page — and the clock was a seed round away. We needed something real enough to earn trust from patients and investors, but built carefully enough that it wouldn't collapse the moment it grew.
The approach
Move fast and build something that lasts — the two aren't opposites if you're disciplined.
- Product before pixels. I mapped the core journeys with the founders and cut everything that didn't serve the first honest version.
- A brand system, not a logo. A warm, reassuring visual language that worked across native and web from day one.
- Foundations that scale. Typed end to end, with the boring infrastructure — auth, data, observability — done properly the first time.
Rare to find someone genuinely world-class at both design and engineering.
The outcome
Lumen went from idea to 40,000 active users and a $3.2M seed round. The foundations I set still carry the product today — the team builds faster because the groundwork holds.
